MEP Services: John G. Christy Municipal Building, Jefferson City, MO

Jefferson City Public Works selected MECO to provide an engineering study of the existing HVAC system serving the John G. Christy building. This facility serves as administrative office space for the city, along with other court related functions. The existing system consisted of (5) VAV air handling units with direct expansion condensing units to provide air conditioning, and a gas fired heating water boiler to provide heating for the building. The original temperature control system had suffered for many years lack of routine maintenance resulting in comfort complaints and inefficient operation.

Once the study was presented, construction documents were prepared and bid to implement the recommendations outlined in the report. This work included the addition of variable frequency drives, replacement of select VAV boxes, a new, higher efficiency gas fired boiler and heating water pump, and a new energy management system. These improvements were done within the available construction budget and resulted in increased comfort while delivering better system efficiency.

New City Hall Building Renovation, City of Boonville, Missouri

The City of Boonville, MO received a gift of the United Missouri Bank (UMB) Building upon completion of the banks new Boonville facility. MECO Engineering worked under the project construction managers, SEPTAGON Construction, to provide MEP construction documents for the renovation of the building into the city’s new City Hall Facility. The existing HVAC system included a series of rooftop units that served various zones within the building. It was determined that the existing equipment was in need of replacement. The existing system was removed in it entirety and replaced with a Kaikin VRF system to provide a comfortable, energy efficient solution. The project also included upgraded building finishes, new power distribution and the replacement of the existing lighting with higher efficiency compact and T8 fluorescent lighting.
