JAMES D. BENSMAN NAMED MECO JUNIOR ASSOCIATE

MECO Engineering Company, Inc. is pleased to announce that James D. Bensman, P.E., S.E., has been promoted to Junior Associate of MECO Engineering.   

Jim began his engineering career with MECO in January 1997, after graduating from the New Mexico State University; Las Cruces, in 1996, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.  Jim specialized in structural engineering, becoming licensed as a Missouri Professional Engineer in 2001.  He proceeded to further his education and professional development, and became licensed as a Professional Structural Engineer (SE) in the State of Illinois in 2004.    

As MECO’s Structural Engineer, Jim leads our Structural Engineering Team, providing engineering design solutions for bridges, buildings, and other structures.  Mr. Bensman also performs structural evaluations and investigations, and is qualified to perform various non-destructive testing procedures, including ultrasonic testing.

 

MECO is fortunate to have an engineer and a person of Jim's caliber as a member of our professional team, and now as a Junior Associate.  Jim’s talents and skills are a tremendous asset to our company as we continue to expand as a consulting, engineering, and surveying firm. We congratulate Jim on this achievement and wish him continued success in his career development.

 

Jim, his wife Claire, and daughter Elise, reside in Hannibal, Missouri, with their son, Ryan, attending Northwest Missouri State University.  

JANE RUSHFORD HIRED AS GEOLOGIST IN HANNIBAL, MISSOURI

MECO Engineering welcomes Jane Rushford to our Hannibal Office as the newest member of our staff.  Jane is a geologist and brings her eleven years of project management and design experience from the greater Chicago area to her new position.  Her work experience includes storm water management, master planning and site development, hydrology and hydraulic modeling, and environmental engineering relating to soils and groundwater.  Jane is a 1983 graduate of Western Illinois University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology.  Jane and her husband Charles reside in Hannibal with their children Clayton and Jessie. 

We hope everyone enjoys the experience of the local display and we appreciate the efforts of Jim and Linda Colbert and their staff, and all of the participants who will make this first year a great success.  The display opens November 22, 2006 and runs through the New Year. 

JERRY L. LANE PROMOTED TO JEFFERSON CITY OFFICE MANAGER

Effective April 1, 2006, Jerry L. Lane, PE, assumed the duties and responsibilities of Office Manager of the Jefferson City Branch Office of MECO Engineering.  This position was previously held by Robert E. Reed, PE, PhD, who has taken a research position with the University of Missouri-Rolla.  Mr. Lane joined the MECO Engineering Jefferson City Office in December 2005.  He is well known throughout the State of Missouri for his 34 years of service in the public drinking water program with the Department of Natural Resources, most recently as the Director of the Public Drinking Water Program.  We congratulate Jerry on this promotion and major accomplishment in his career development.  His leadership and management skills will be a definite asset to MECO Engineering as we continue to grow our firm throughout Missouri and Illinois. 

EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCED BY MECO ENGINEERING

We take great pleasure in announcing that Scott E. Vogler, PE and Max F. Middendorf, PE have been been promoted to Vice Presidents of MECO Engineering Company, and each have been elected to a position on the MECO Board of Directors.

In addition to this honor, Scott has been named Director of Engineering for all of the MECO office locations.  Scott joined the firm in 1995, and as a Senior Engineer, he has been instrumental in the day to day operations of the Jefferson City Office.  The management and staff of MECO Engineering take this opportunity to extend our congratulations to Scott for this major accomplishment in his career development and wish him continued success. 

Mr. Middendorf graduated from the University of Missouri-Rolla, receiving his Civil Engineering degree in 1988.  As the Manager of the Pittsfield, Illinois Office, Max has been responsible for the development of clientele within the central Illinois region.  In addition to his management duties associated with his new role as Vice President, Max will also provide support to Scott as he carries out his Director of Engineering duties.  Max has been an Associate Owner of the firm since July 2003. 

We recognize Scott and Max for their excellence in engineering, management, and leadership skills as they join President Kenneth L. Woods, PE and Vice President Norman D. Ellerbrock, PLS, on the MECO management team.  The management and staff of MECO Engineering extend congratulations and best wishes for success to Mr. Vogler and Mr. Middendorf as they assume their new leadership and management roles.  

WYATT JUDGE FOR WATER TASTE TEST CHALLENGE AT IRWA (March 21, 2006)

Marketing Coordinator Jan Wyatt was asked to sit on a panel of judges at the Illinois Rural Water Association's (IRWA) annual Water Taste Test Contest this week in Effingham, Illinois.  Fourteen water samples were submitted by Illinois public drinking water systems and were rated by the three-judge panel.  Each sample was rated on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest.  The winning sample was submitted by Curt Mezo, Manager of the Murdale Water District of Carbondale Illinois.  Ms. Wyatt gave the water a "10", the highest rating, stating afterwards that it was the best water she had ever tasted.  The Murdale water sample was the only water to receive a "10" in the competition, receiving a total of 28 points.  Mr. Mezo said he always knew he had good water and that this proved it.

The Murdale Water District is now eligible to compete at the national level in the Great American Water Tasting Contest in Washington DC.   We wish them luck and know they have every chance of winning with such great tasting water!

BENSMAN ENDORSED AS ILLINOIS PE

James D. Bensman, PE, SE, was recently notified by the State of Illinois Board of Registration that his request for registration by endorsement as an Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) was accepted and he can begin practicing immediately.  Mr. Bensman obtained his Missouri PE in 2001 and his Illinois Structural Engineering (SE) license in 2004.  Missouri and Illinois enjoy a mutual reciprocity relationship, providing for the issuance of a license based on experience and endorsement of the individual without further testing requirements.  Jim will be required to submit Professional Development Hours (PDH) to maintain his license. 

Jim is our Senior Structural Engineer and leads our Structural Engineering Department, providing engineering design solutions for bridges, buildings, foundations, steel, concrete, and other structures.  Mr. Bensman also performs structural analysis evaluations and investigations, and is qualified to perform various non-destructive testing procedures, including ultrasonic testing.

JERRY L. LANE, PE JOINS MECO'S JEFFERSON CITY OFFICE

MECO engineering is pleased to announce the addition of Jerry L. Lane, P.E., to the firm’s Jefferson City, Missouri office.  Mr. Lane is well known throughout the State of Missouri for his 34 years of service with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. He served nearly 18 years as Director of the Department’s Public Drinking Water Program. 

Mr. Lane’s experience writing and interpreting state and federal requirements will help MECO better serve our clients who are dealing with increasingly complex compliance requirements.  He co-authored the nationally recognized Ten States Standards for waterworks design, and the state design guide for water systems. As an engineer with the state drinking water program he reviewed and approved engineering reports, plans and specifications for water facility construction projects.  He participated in developing and administering several EPA requirements within the state, including the state’s low interest loan program for water systems and the model emergency response plan for water systems. Over the years, Mr. Lane’s focus has been assisting water supply system managers understand and comply with increasing government requirements.

JEFFERSON CITY OFFICE HIRES MICHAEL A. LOGSTON, PE

MECO Engineering Company, Inc. is pleased to announce that Michael A. Logston, PE, has recently joined the firm as a Senior Engineer in the company’s Jefferson City Office. 

Mr. Logston brings 32 years of environmental engineering experience and technical expertise to his new position, including 29 years with the Department of Natural Resources (Drinking Water and Water Pollution Control Programs).  His primary responsibilities focus on public works projects, with an emphasis on water, sanitary sewer, and wastewater treatment.  

Mr. Logston graduated from the University of Missouri/Rolla in 1973, receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering.

BOONVILLE OFFICE OFFICIALLY DEDICATED

MECO Engineering is proud to announce the recent opening of our new Satellite Office in Boonville, Missouri.  This office is located at 400 6th Street, directly across from City Hall.  This office will serve as a base of operations for our on-going work in the the City of Boonville, where we are the City Engineer, and will facilitate our delivery of engineering and land surveying services to our client base in the surrounding region.  The Chamber of Commerce conducted the official Ribbon Cutting ceremony January 17, 2006.  MECO held a Open House after the ceremony, attended by Chamber ambassadors and city officials.  We are looking forward to being a member of the Boonville community. 

KEVIN L. BOCK PASSES SURVEY EXAMINATION

Norman D. Ellerbrock, PLS, Vice President and Survey Manager of MECO Engineering Company, Inc., Hannibal, is pleased to announce that Kevin L. Bock has passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Land Surveying Examination.  This is Kevin's initial step towards registration as a professional land surveyor.  Kevin is officially designated as a Land Surveyor-In-Training and will be eligible to sit for the Land Surveyor examination in one year.  The Management and staff of MECO Engineering extend our congratulations to Kevin for this major accomplishment in his career development and wish him continued success.

MECO HONORED BY MISSOURI RURAL WATER ASSOCIATION

MECO Engineering was presented the coveted "Associate Member of the Year" award for 2004 by the Missouri Rural Water Association at the Annual Meeting and Technical Conference.  The conference was held April 22-24, 2005 in Springfield, Missouri at the University Plaza Hotel and Conference Center.  Randy Norden of MRWA presented the award to MECO President Ken Woods and Marketing Coordinator Jan Wyatt during the conference kick-off festivities.

This award is presented each year to an associate member who exemplifies the ideals and visions of the Association as demonstrated through their dedication and support of the MRWA and its members.  The MRWA provides technical assistance, water and wastewater operator training, mapping, and many other services to support water and wastewater systems throughout the State of Missouri.  Many of MECO's municipal and district clients are members of the MRWA, recognizing the benefits of belonging to this statewide association.

MECO has been an active member of the MRWA since 1985 and is very pleased to to be recognized in this manner.  We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Board of Directors and staff of MRWA for this wonderful award.  

MECO will be attending the Annual Meeting and Technical Conference in Springfield, MO March 20-22, 2007 at the University Plaza.  We look forward to seeing you there.

Employee Service Awards

MECO (Hannibal, Jefferson City, Missouri and Pittsfield, IL)  recently presented employee service awards through the implementation of the firm's Service Award Program.  On December 3, 2004, certificates and checks were presented to all employees with five or more years of service.

Gary Moore, Technical Manager, has been with MECO Engineering for 33 years, and was given special recognition as the employee with the longest employment record.

MECO Engineering Company owners and management extend their thanks and congratulations to each of these dedicated and loyal employees.  These employees represent a total of 379 years of continuous service to the firm.

Ashby Awarded Key to Marshfield

The City of Marshfield, Missouri recently completed a $7,000,000 citywide water system improvements project.  Marshfield is located on I-44, northeast of the Springfield/Branson area, with a current population of 5,800, more than double its 1990 population. 

MECO Engineering provided professional engineering, construction management and construction observation services for this project through the company's Jefferson City Office.  Construction observation was primarily the responsibility of Kevin Ashby, who brought 25 years of experience to this project.  He was instrumental in the development and implementation of a successful Public Information and Public Relations Program, resulting in a positive customer response to the project.

Kevin's dedication to the project and to the community was expressed through the award of the "Key to the City of Marshfield", presented December 3, 2004 by MECO President Ken Woods on behalf of the City.  Kevin resides in California, Missouri.
